What kind of mindset would you say you hold each day?  Strong, weak, empowered, exhausted, positive, negative?  There are as many types of mindsets are there are people in the world, and most of us have different mindsets for different aspects of our lives.  For example, your work mindset might be empowered, confident and successful, while your weight loss mindset might be pessimistic and weak.

Below are three key qualities that you can begin building in your mindset when it comes to health and weight loss:

- Resilience

Resilience is the ability to keep bouncing back after failures, obstacles or disappointments.  When it comes to weight loss, resilience is vital because there are so many moments when you may be tempted to quit when things don’t seem to be going your way.

A resilient mindset says, “I don’t care how many things go wrong.  I don’t care how many times I fall down.  I will simply keep getting back up and trying again until I succeed.”

- Awareness

Self-sabotage is a common theme running through the lives of many people, especially those who are overweight.  Awareness is the solution for self-sabotage because the moment you become aware that you are doing something destructive, you can no longer keep doing it without making a conscious decision to do so.

For example, mindless eating.  It’s easy to eat large quantities of junk food on autopilot, and then wonder why you are having such a hard time losing weight.  But once you start to develop a stronger sense of awareness about your destructive actions, you won’t be able to indulge in mindless eating as easily as you used to.  Instead, you would have to DECIDE to indulge in mindless eating, and that won’t be as easy as habitually slipping into the action.

An aware mindset says, “All of my actions will come from conscious decisions, not habits or subconscious reactions.”

- Confidence

Successful weight loss requires a confident mindset, because if you don’t believe in your ability to achieve a goal, you simply won’t keep taking the actions that will make you successful.  Developing confidence really isn’t as difficult as it may seem at first glance – you simply need to keep building up your belief in yourself, and affirming that you can be successful.

A confident mindset says, “I may not always feel strong and capable, but I am willing to believe that I can become stronger and more capable.  Whatever I don’t know yet, I can learn.”

These three traits alone can make the difference between successful weight loss or one more failed attempt.
